How did your doctor diagnose it? The only way to know for sure is to draw fluid out of the joint and test it for crystals. Good luck Limpy

I hope you didn’t really take 100mgs of Colchicine. My tabs are .6 mgs and when I was taking one of those twice a day I couldn’t be to far from the bathroom at any time. I think a 100mgs would kill you or it would me any way. Limpy pen said

Thanks for the reply. Right now I’m taking 200mg of allopurinol I take it 15minutes after dinner and 2 hours before I go to sleep. i’m not sure what the best time to take it to make it more efficient. So today I saw my doctor and though it doesn’t hurt much he prescribed me colchicine. So I took 100mg of that. I also did a blood and urine test during visit. I’ll post the results as soon as I get them. I consider this attack minor compared to what I got the first time, but I’m still worried. I’m really hoping my uric acid is lowering and that it’s not a bad allopurinol dose.

With the price of Colchicine at $5 a pill i’m sure these will be gone in no time. DELBOY this is a act of kindness you don’t see very offen anymore. But please be careful who you send them to. As i’m sure the feds in the good old USA would love to nail you for distrubiting of a controled substance. I know your heart is in the right place but in this country big phama and the FDA go hand in hand. Plus if you use the poststal service thats another charge. What ever you choose to do. I wish you good luck and wish there were more people in this world like you. It would be a much better place. Limpy

Man thats tough. Colchicine will stop most attacks but the price is a killer. Took one .6 mgs pill twice a day for 18 months and it really helped with the pain and swelling. But when I bumped my dose of allop up from 200mgs to 300mgs I got off them with in a month. What is your acid level now since your on Allop? If I were you i’d try and get it down in the 5 range. Good luck. Limpy

I believe a rash is the main sign that you can’t take it. Be warned when starting Allop there a very good chance you will have an attack of gout so you might want to have some Colchicine on hand. Good luck Limpy.CHUNQX said

Thanks for that, Hans. I think I’ve accepted the medication bit. I’ve just started taking the Allopurinol as of this morning instead of Tuesday like my dr instructed. I can’t see the difference 2 days will make especially for the 100mg dose. The 100mg dose will only be for a week. After that I’ll see about negotiating with my dr about going to 300mg. One question: How do I know if I’m allergic to Allopurinol or not (ie. to the point where I shouldn’t take it)?

I?had pain in both my ankles first one then the other. This went on for 18?months. rhumy had me on 200mgs of Allpo. It was just enough to lower my acid level and put me in a place where you don't want to be.?I finally got a doc to up my Allop to 300mgs. Bang?I got off the two Colchicine a day that I'd been on for 18 months. Get your acid level down in the 5 range even if you have to up your dose of Allop to 400 or 500 mgs. If your doctor won't listen. Find one who will. I believe if I'd been put on 300mgs starting off ( just like ZIP2PLAY said)?it would have saved me months of pain and heart problems from the steroids. Good luck. Limpy

Thanks, I just returned from the dr. He upped me to 300mg. and said I'm his only patient on the high mg. allopurinol. Only time will tell and hopefully Ill be able to make it back to work tomorrow.

That makes me wonder how many patients with Gout he has? Since it seems to me 300mgs seems like the standard dose. Myself?I think?I might be looking for a different doctor. It's sad that in this day and age most doctors still have no clue when it comes to treating Gout. Good luck. Limpy.

I took Prednisone for about 8 months off and on it would work on the pain and swelling then as soon as i tried to get off it the pain would come back and the rheumy would up the dose. That went on till?Igot up to 60 mgs then my heart started acting up. Skipping beats and flutters.?Ihad to start bata blockers to calm my heart down.?He finally put me on Colchicine and that stopped the attacks.?I still think if that asshole would have started me out on Colchicine?I could have avoided all the trouble I've had with my heart.?I hope?I never have to take another steroid?as long as?I live. I'd insist on trying the Colchicine. Good luck. ?Limpy????? Zip what banana ? I'm don't know what your talking about.

See if your doctor will write a script for Colchicine if that stops the attack you most likely have Gout. If it does stop it. Allop is the next step and it is for life.?I hope you have insurance as Colchicine has went Thu the roof since the FDA approved it. My last was $310 for 60 pills which was a months supply. You can get it?a lot cheaper if you?Thu a online pharmacy out of?Canada. Another thing you can try is baking soda mix 1/2 teaspoon in 6 to 8?OZ of water and drink it.?I use to do this 3 or 4 times a day and it worked pretty well. But?I must warn you it can raise you blood pressure. It worked for me but just as a temporary fix. If you have Gout you need to get on meds for it before it does permanent. damage.?Good luck. Limpy

I was in pain for months on and off prednisone.?I wish my dumb ass rhummy would have put me colchcine right off instead of the roids. He told me I'd be on colchine for 8 to 10 months but it was?one?.60mgs pill twice a day for 18 months. Finally?I talked a new doctor into upping my dose of allo from 200mgs to 300mgs a day after a month of that?I stopped the colchine all together.?I still have some pain but nothing like before. I hope this helps. Good luck Limpy

Your dr. should be able to tell you what your level was. But it can drop when your having an attack. Once you get on the Allop and stay you may be one of the lucky ones who can go back to living a completly normal life as long as you stay on the Allop. Colchicine is your best bet to stop an attack dead in its tracks. Good luck Limpy

I?think you can sign up for help with the company that make Colchicine now at a discount. My doctor perscribed me Naproxin to take the place of Colchicine. It's pretty cheap but?I couldn't take it on acount of some other issues. As far as the allop you can bite the bullet now or pay a bigger price by waiting. Good luck Limpy?

I?don't suppose your doctor told you about all the people that have gotten Gout because they were put on a blood pressure med by a doctor.?That had a water pill in it called?HCTZ .?Anyone can get Gout so don't let him put that gulit trip on you.?Have you had your acid level tested ? Are you on Allopurinal??I'm a little scared of nsaids my self but?I do take 1 Colchicine pill twice a day to keep the pain down. I think most people can take nsaids without any real trouble. But?I have a couple of things going against me so?I don't really want to chance it. Good luck. Limpy

Keith?I know you work very hard at keeping this site up and running. It's something?I couldn't do.?I just don't have computer skills. I'm sure John hit a nerve when he posted about having trouble getting around on Goutpal. After all it's your hard work that makes this site the best place to go for info about Gout.?But?I can see Johns point to. When?I first came back on here after a long break the changes were very confusing. It was like two different sites this side with the black and tan or green header and the other side with the pink and red. And?I did have trouble finding the right place to post questions.?It's like most things though the more you do it the easier it gets. That being said you might want to look at this site thru a new members eyes. It can be a bit confusing and overwelming if your in pain and just looking for help and to get a few questions answered. I want to thank you again for all the help and info on the site.?I for one don't know what?I would have done without it. Limpy
