    I had several months of near constant pain when I started on the Allopurinol, but I managed it with ORC Alave (220mg) and now the pain is gone. I'm taking the Allopurinol, drinking 3-4 liters of water a day, drinking tart cherry juice mixed with the water, etc… Hang in there!

    That picture was taken in 2008, before my gout started, sio I'm not able to wear my Birkenstocks any more. I wear Keen sandals and Born shoes and they are OK. I've been on 300mg Allopurinol for over a month and I have had almost constant pain from gout during that time. I couldn't press the clutch pedal and driving the car went from being a joy to being a pain, so I had to sell it. Perhaps once I get this gout beat I'll get a newer one with a lighter clutch pedal. For now, I just need to get some relief from the pain. I'm very discouraged, but I'm not giving up! Thanks for the advice, kind words and support!

    I've been on 300mg of Allopurinol for over a month now and I've had many mini-flareups during that time. The worst was this weekend, both of my feet were burning and incredibly sore. The pain is so bad after driving my Porsche 911 that I sold it last weekend. I don't enjoy driving it anymore, with all of the foot pain that pressing the clutch pedal causes… That's my wife and I sitting by the car. I understand how bad the gout pain is, I wouldn't have ever considered selling my “baby” before I was hit with this disease…

    The guy deceided to buy a newer Porsche with air conditioning (!), so I still have the car. I've been on 300mg of Allopurinol for a week so far and I'll drive the car again this weekend. Hopefully, my toe won't throb after I'm done driving…

    i believe most Pilsner-style beers are currently being brewed with a large percentage of rice  (like Budweiser, Asahi, Sapporo, etc) because the rice provides the starch/sugar for the yeast and doesn't contribute as much flavor/calories as barlet and wheat. American Pilsner has hardly any fllavor (except hops) and that's one of the hallmarks of the American Pilsner.

    The only “trigger” I've been able to identify is the stiff clutch pedal on my car. My toe aches for at least a day after driving the car. I take Aleve (Naproxyn) for the pain.

      I have a liver ailment known as “NASH” with elevated liver enzymes and I've had my liver enzymes under control by modifying my diet for a few years now. I'm going to see my liver specialist on the 23rd of this month and he'll check my liver enzymes (AST and ALT and GGTP) to be sure they aren't going up after starting on 100mg of Allopurinol each day. I'll post the results and hopefully, that will help you…

    I'm on week #3 of 100mg Allopurinol a day. I only eat fish or chicken once a week, no alcohol, not overweight and I'm still having twinges and warmth in my toes. This AM I woke up with toe pain and had to take 220mg of Naproxen, which took care of it.

    Haas avocados are the best! Bacon aand Fuerte are good, but Haas have the “buttery” texture that we like. My wife and I took care of a friend's avocado grove in Fallborrok, CA when I was stationed at Camp Pendleton. Put some lemon juice on the avocado when you cut it open and remove the pit to keep it from turning brown. Try an avocado with a scoop of tuna fish in the center, it's really good! I eat “fake” bacon and my wife makes me bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado sandwiches regularly and they are tasty! My father eats real bacon and he couldn't tell the difference!

      Yep! I don't eat animal fats and I control my intake of fats and sugars very, very carefully. My liver enzymes are stable and have been since I started this lifestyle several years ago. No alcohol of any kind, no red meat… lots of fruit, vegetables, lentil soup, good stuff. No more kibbee nayee, though…

    I just ate a handful of dried tart cherries and I love those things. I don't know if they help my gout, but they sure don't hurt and I love 'em!

       Thanks for the info. I love the tart cherry flavor and I get my tart cherry “supplement” every day! I'm eating dried tart cherries from Traverse City, MI and I'm also drinking tart cherry juice concentrate. There are worse things to have to eat/drink!!!

    I keep the “twinges” and “pins and needles” down by using Aleve (220mg of Naproxen) every 12 hours. It seems to help quite a bit, but the “warm feeling” is still present.

    So far the only trigger food I've identified is lentil soup. Of course, I was eating a lot of it (1 gallon per week) since it was my main source of protein since I'm a vegetarian… Now I eat it sparingly…

    I've been on Allopurinol (100mg once a day) for 2 weeks now and I'm experiencing the “twinges” and tenderness in my toe, so I'm off to get my 220mg of Aleve. My toe feels like it's being poked with a needle, tingling and burning…

      Congratulations on the progress you've made and the low SUA! I've been on Allupurinol for 2 weeks and on 9/23 I go in for lab work and Dr visit. We'll check the SUA and my liver enzymes. I'm not expecting significant results like you've had yet, but I can always hope!!

       I've never taken any notes, but it seems to happen every few months, lasts a week or so, then gone! It doesn't seem to be related to any variable (stress, diet, medication, etc…) that I can determine…

    The “problem” I have with “natural” or “homeopathic” medications is that they aren't lab tested (or at least that I know of) and I don't know how we can know that we're getting the “right” amount in the “right” concentration. My liver specialist specifically warned me about taking any homeopathic meds without checking with him first. Seems that many of them can have a harmful effect on the liver. He isn't “anti-homeopathic”, he's just being cautious. Commercially available meds have their well-documented issues and certainly aren't perfect, but they are lab tested and the strength/dosage is standardized…just my humble opinion, I could be wrong!

    I have dyslipidemia due to liver disease (NASH) and so I'm hoping that Allopurinol may have some positive effect on my lipids as well as my uric acid. I'm hoping for a lot, I know!

      I'm glad your gout is under control and that your UA level is going in the right direction. I am also taking Allopurinol (100mg a day) and I'm on a low dose because of a liver condition. I'll get my next UA on 9/23, I was at 6.5 last month. good luck to you!

    I drink 2 large cups of coffee every AM to help prevent migraines (caffeine helps prevent vasodilation and cranial blood vessel spasms) and I use Stevia sweetner in the coffee. The rest of the day, I drink 1 gallon of water or lemonade with tart cherry juice. I am on my 1st week of Allopurinol (100mg a day). This past weekend was rough as my toes hurt quite a bit. I'm 6'1″ and 180lbs, so I'm not overweight.

    My wife buys Montmorency tart cherry juice for me and I have it daily, usually mixed with fresh lemonade and a small amount of Stevia to sweeten it. Last night I had a smoothie made with it and it was fantastic! One good thing about living in Michigan is that we can buy tart cherry juice relatively cheap since they are grown in the northern part of our state. FruitFast is the brand we buy the most. I believe it $20 US for a quart and that lasts me 2-4 weeks.

    New way to get your tart cherry juice!

    My wife made me a smoothie last night.

    She used 2 bananas, low fat natural yogurt, Stevia and Montmorency tart cherry juice and ice. It was delicious and tasted great! I find the tart cherry juice challenging to drink. So I usually drink it in lemonade with a little Stevia to sweeten it up.
