No more pain for past two weeks. Formula?
Allopurinol 300mg/ day
alkaline tablets every other day
Just an update. Pain for the last few 2 weeks has been localized in my left knee and foot. Off celebrex since Monday of last week and has just been doing a steady dose of colchicine to manage inflammation. 2 days ago reduced dosage of colchicine to just 3x a day as pain seems to be subsiding although I still walk with a limp.?
If pain goes away i wish to sustain it at least for a week until the next attack due to shedding crystals—then I would've had my first milestone! A week's worth as a pain free citizen.
If i may suggest and really if you find the general advice in the forum–the best way to go is to up the intake from 200mg to 300mg per day. 6.2 is still not a good number as to quote GP “crystals continually form and shed during this phase”. It be best to make sure that your number goes to at least below 6 for starters. I've gotten mine to a comfortable 5++ and this means that I've sort of managed the high numbers so that no new crystals form high enough to bring a severe attack. I'm dealing with the shedding of old crystals and that's what's getting me worried.
How long? I know it'll take a while as I've had gout for 15 years tops and this is the only time that my attacks have been consistent. (even without the allo). My metabolic tests are A-OK so I guess it's really the old crystals.
The past two months–especially the past two weeks have been gruelling for me as the attacks won't stop. I hope that maybe in the next few days i just wake up with all the pain gone. Heck an attack every two weeks is ok with me—at least I can enjoy life a bit.
But the attacks everyday is just too much.
Btw i look for this site as inspiration–this means so much hope at the end of the tunnel. I hope you can find it here too.
lumpia is ok ?but you need to stay away from those with mung bean sprouts sold on the manila streets. safest lumpia is Ubod (palm hearts) best chinese burrito ever. Aso adobo? i'll pass on that one—pork and chicken combo works gastronomic wonders though
Azasadny, thank god for this forum–as it is and from where I come from (Philippines) all rheumies are out of the equation. No one phreaking knows how to treat the gout demon. Yes both of our situations seem alike and hopefully we get out of the constant pain hump in due time.?
Out of curiosity how long have you had the gout? I've had mine for almost 15 years and only began my allo therapy recently–which is why It'll take a while longer till the devil disappears. In the meantime, more of the healthy lifestyle and if I find a gem along the way will keep everyone updated. I'm looking into the acid/alkaline diet to see if it can fast track some of the crystal elimination.
Will keep you posted.
Thanks Trev and excatly what I need. Reassurance that I won't get crippled for life. if I were a serial killer—I'd name myself “Crystal Death”.
Sorry Hannshin and yes I've read a couple of posts in the forum referrring to exercise as a gout trigger. Bear in mind though that I was having these attacks even before I started exercising again(please see my earlier post). And because my knee attack was getting better because of the celebrex and colchicine I've decided to go for a light spin just to keep the blood circulating.?
My question is that the attacks (pain) now comes in waves—particularly after eating my first meal everyday. which is why I take the meds until they wear off the next day, which is strange because the attacks never seem to stop–one day it's my knee, the next my foot or my hand.
Btw today all pain in my knee is gone. I am now having an attack in my right wrist. ?My uric acid is 296.80 umol/L and my liver/renal panel tests are all in the lows.?
Since my last post Wednesday (above) here's what's been happening:
While on daily dose of Allo 300mg–which I take evenings, I ?have discontinued Celebrex as there have not been any terrible pain episodes the maginitude of what I had last week but I continue to take colchicine x 2 everytime I sense a twitch. i take the colchicine around 10AM.
Thursday: 10 AM took 2 colchicine because of pain felt in my left knee (same knee that has been “gouted” more than two weeeks running)
Thursday after the colchicine pain has gone away throughout the evenings until early morning
Friday AM: Was able to get out to do some light biking in the AM—no pain
Friday late AM (After Breakfast of yogurt) 30 minutes after some pain surfaces on left problematic knee ( I take 2 x colchicine to avert the inflammation)
Fridayafter the colchicine pain has gone away throughout the evenings until early morning
Saturday AM: Was able to get out to do some light biking in the AM—no pain
Saturday late AM?(After Breakfast of strawberries) 30 minutes after some pain surfaces on left problematic knee ( I take 2 x colchicine to avert the inflammation)
Saturday after the colchicine pain has gone away throughout the evenings until early morning
Sunday AM: Was able to get out to do some light biking in the AM—no pain
Sunday late AM?(After Breakfast of bananas and pumpkin seeds) 30 minutes after some pain surfaces on left problematic knee ( I take 2 x colchicine to avert the inflammation)
Sunday after the colchicine pain has gone away throughout the evenings until early morning
Is this becoming to be a strange pattern? I've have noticed that everytime I or take something during the mornings (first meal) the pain happens 30 minutes after and this has become a bit bothersome. Does this mean that everytime I ingest something–my uric acid shoots up??
This is getting scary ?
yes zip. steady stream of colchicine and celebrex. Painful when it wears off. oh and btw—liver and kidney panel tests came a -ok. SUA was at 296.80 umol/L so i guess allo is doing its job. Only have high eisinophils at 7.40.
Just update everyone. Now on my 2nd week of allo. Will get UA tested by weekend to see the numbers. I've been still getting the attacks one after the other. The one in my knee is very very painful as we speak…jeez when will the attacks end
Thanks everyone. Yeah I figured that I've always been under the scare of this guy:
It's day 2 of my allo revival and it hurts like hell. Metabolic Panel tests actually makes sense and I think I'll have a go at it the soonest.?
Hi everyone good to be back here again. It's nice to know that there is an authoritative community out there such as this with fully supportive members. 2 years ago I got great advice on using allo to bring down my UA levels and it worked! I mixed the medication with a lot of mountain biking and last year I was off allo as my UA levels were consistently low for days even without taking the meds.
About a month ago my gout came back and yes I was stupid enough not to bring back allo again. Last 2 weeks I've been getting one attack after the other. My gout would subside with both celebrex and colchicine but then would resurface in another joint ASAP. (I had two instances where gout pain in wrist gone today but then knee would have an acute attack, last week it was my left foot under seige and when it subsided it transfered to the wrist).
I took a 300mg dose today to start off allo therapy again but would have a couple of questions:
-How long will it take for my UA levels to go down on 300 mg a day allo?
-Will my attacks be more vigorous and frequent as they start dissolving?
-Am I experiencing some sort of kidney or renal failure as it is the frst time that I am experiencing continuous and non stop gout flares
Hope you folks can help me. And yes I am ever grateful to this community. Hope we can have an FB page.
@met—just got to look at the pictures and just to correct the Black soyabeans I get is more of the “thai” type–though I refer to them as Chinese since I purchase them in the nearby chinatown district for $2.50 a kilo. Anyone who would be interested in this–I can certainly send you some except shipping costs might be too high . I live in Manila, Philippines by the way where I can get these beans by the bucketloads.
It's the Black soyabeans from china. works like a charm 🙂
Metamorph you are a genius.
I tried your BBB (2 cups worth of broth) just last night when I felt a painful twinge signaling an onset and eureka–this morning the pain has subsided a bit (down to about 50%). This is not achievable by colchicine (at least for me) when I would have at least taken the magic 2 + 1 every hour and go even as far as supplementing with 400 mg of celebrex.
This morning I downed another cuppa the BBB and now (11AM) pain is gone. nada. zilch.
Thanks bro and more power.
Thanks GP. Surely—-i have already stocked on allo—and once I get my blood test this afternoon will already start with a 300mg dosage. I'm quite worried as the attacks already happen every other day! I dunno if it's the lemon juice only morning routine that i've been doing since two weeks ago (they say lemon alkalizes uric acid–which is why pain appears ever so often) or maybe my immune system has gone bonkers. 🙁
Thanks zip. Thanks Tav.
Your advice I shall follow and keep everyone posted. It's great to know that there is a forum such as this for misguided elements such as myself :-(.
I'm at the stage that even standing in supermarket for an hour or so precipitates an attack. Not good.
