I was diagnosed three weeks ago with Gout.

My ankles and knees are still swollen is this normal?

    I’m taking Allopurinol.

Yes, you can still experience swollen joints as existing crystals in your joints dissolve. These episodes will be come less frequent and less severe as the weeks pass.

Be sure to get uric acid tests every few weeks (as your doctor advises) to adjust your allopurinol dose to ensure uric acid levels stay below 6mg/dL.

You may need some gout pain relief until all crystals have dissolved.

For the more information on Swollen Joints, please see my latest addition to the I Have Gout program.

That program is about getting a good diagnosis, so there is nothing about allopurinol (I will cover gout treatments in a separate management program). If you want to know more about your gout symptoms, please see Is It Swollen Joints Or Tophaceous Gout?.

If you want to know more about allopurinol and swollen joints, please follow the links in my earlier post, then ask here if you still have questions.
