I keep getting asked "Where can I get pegloticase" The answer, "Nowhere yet," is probably not what you want to hear, but read on for the latest news. Pegloticase is a generic name for PEG-uricase - a genetically engineered form of uricase. Uricase is an enzyme present in some animals that breaks down uric acid in the body. Humans do not produce uricase, so techniques have been developed to produce a type of uricase that humans can use. Various versions of this treatment are being developed. The one that is most advanced is expected to be approved soon under the brand name Krystexxa, in the USA. This was recommended for approval in June this year, and the FDA are expected to give final approval on August 1st. So does this mean you can rush out and buy some in August? Absolutely not. My daughter posted about my broken back in the forum but my access in hospital is limited, so I will update here. These limitations are keeping me out of Facebook, but this should get autoposted. Thanks to zip2play's "atheist prayers" and many other people's powerful healing thoughts, I'm here with an update. Sunday. Railing at the top of stairs failed. Apparently, the concrete below is 11 feet, and ,of course, half my height, to give a 14 foot fall, that, thankfully, I don't remember. Local Intensive Care Unit (ICU - What's the USA equivalent?) worked on me through the night. As I've said, my editing features are limited, but I've found a picture that almost shows the situation. Hello my fellow Gout suffers! This is my first Gout forum sign up after having several attacks in the past years. I'm 25 years of age, and unfortunately I have Gout. I want to believe this all started after/during my very first job after graduating, which was a ride operator at Sea World San Diego, which required standing for HOURS. I would also like to add that, i was going out drinking at the clubs heavily, as most people my age do. I had a few attacks that never lasted as long as they do now. As more info about gout is being revealed i'm learning more and more about it. Gouty tophi (singular = tophus) are lumps of uric acid crystals. They frequently form under the skin after prolonged uric acid over 6.8mg/dL. As uric acid crystals form, our white blood cells attack the invading crystals, so tophi are a mass of crystals and dead cells. Over time, these become harder, and can reduce mobility or burst through the skin, risking infection. Tophi will slowly shrink when uric acid is below the crystallization point. They shrink faster when uric acid is lower. Modern uricase treatments, such as Krystexxa (pegloticase) shrink tophi fastest. Vitamin C has been recognized as having uric acid lowering properties, and is being suggested more and more as a gout treatment. Though research has covered various aspects of vitamin C and gout, there are no clear guidelines as to how much is the best dose.
